Chenille yarn is thick and velvety. It wears in the tumble dryer, flattens under an iron and loses its shape if it’s dried twisted. The right routine: 30°C, then dry flat.
Day to day
- Shake or brush gently in the direction of the texture, so as not to flatten it.
- A fresh stain can be blotted without rubbing.
Washing
- Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle, with no fabric conditioner or bleach. Wash it on its own: chenille needs room.
- Gentle spin, 800 rpm maximum. The first few washes may release a few fibres, then it settles down.
Drying
- Dry flat, in the open air. That’s what keeps the yarn thick.
Avoid
- Tumble dryer, iron, fabric conditioner, bleach, a fast spin.
