Privacy policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This privacy notice explains how we collect and use your personal data when you visit thesofacoverhouse.com, place an order, contact us or sign up to our emails. It is written under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you live in Ireland, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you equivalent rights; if you live in Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, your local data protection law gives you similar rights.

1. Who we are

The controller of your personal data is WEBDAGAN LLC, trading as The Sofa Cover House, a limited liability company registered in New Mexico, USA, under number 6004792, whose address is 1704 Llano Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505, USA. For any question about your data, email contact@thesofacoverhouse.com.

2. The data we collect

Data you give us

  • Contact and order details: your name, email address, billing and delivery addresses, phone number if you give one, the products you order and the confirmation of your payment.
  • Account details, if you create an account: your login details and order history.
  • Your messages: what you write to us by email or through our contact form, including any photos you send.
  • Reviews: if you leave a review, the name shown with it, your rating, your text and any photos or videos.
  • Email preferences: whether you have signed up to our emails.

Data collected automatically

When you use our website, we and our providers collect information about your device and your visit: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, products added to your basket and how you reached our website. Some of this is collected with cookies and similar technologies (section 6).

Data from others

  • Payment providers, including Klarna if you choose it: confirmation of your payment, whether it has been approved, and the result of fraud checks. We never receive your full card number.
  • Delivery carriers: the delivery status of your parcel.
  • Advertising and analytics providers: if you have accepted the relevant cookies, information about which of our ads you have seen or clicked on.

3. Why we use your data, and our lawful basis

  • To take, deliver and follow up your order (payment, dispatch, delivery, order emails, returns, exchanges and refunds): to perform our contract with you.
  • To answer your questions and complaints: to perform our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in giving good customer service.
  • To manage your account: to perform our contract with you.
  • To prevent fraud and keep our website secure: our legitimate interest in protecting our customers and our business.
  • To keep accounting and tax records: to comply with our legal obligations.
  • To send you marketing emails (offers, new products): your consent. If you have bought from us, we may also email you about similar products, as the law allows, unless you have opted out. You can opt out at any time with the unsubscribe link in each email.
  • To ask you to review your purchase: our legitimate interest in collecting genuine customer reviews.
  • To measure and improve our website (analytics): your consent, given through our cookie banner.
  • To show you our ads on other websites and measure their results: your consent, given through our cookie banner.
  • To establish, exercise or defend legal claims: our legitimate interest.

Where we rely on our legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your rights, and you can object at any time (section 9). The details we ask for at checkout are needed to process your order: without them, we cannot deliver it. Everything else is optional.

4. Automated checks

Our e-commerce platform and our payment providers run automated fraud checks on orders. If such a check leads to your order being blocked or cancelled, you can contact us to ask for a person to review the decision, to give your point of view and to contest it.

5. Who we share your data with

We only share your data with the companies we need to run our shop. Most act on our instructions (processors); some act as separate controllers for part of their services.

  • Shopify, our e-commerce platform, which hosts our website and processes orders and payments. If you use Shop Pay, Shopify also uses your data under its own privacy policy.
  • Payment providers, which process your payment and check it for fraud. If you choose Klarna, Klarna also uses your data as a separate controller, under its own privacy notice, for example to decide whether to approve your payment.
  • Delivery carriers (such as Royal Mail) and our order-tracking tool, to deliver your parcel and keep you informed.
  • Our email provider, to send our emails about your order and, if you agree, our newsletters.
  • Our reviews app (Loox), which sends review requests and displays reviews.
  • Analytics and advertising providers (such as Google and Meta), only if you accept the relevant cookies. Some of them also use the data for their own purposes, under their own privacy policies.
  • Our professional advisers (accountants, lawyers), and public authorities when the law requires it.
  • A buyer of our business, if we sell or transfer all or part of it. Your data would stay protected under this notice.

6. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies on our website.

  • Essential cookies make the website work: your basket, checkout and security. They don’t need your consent.
  • Analytics, preference and advertising cookies are only used if you accept them in our cookie banner.

You can change your choices at any time on our cookie settings page. For details of the cookies Shopify uses, see shopify.com/legal/cookies.

7. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and some of our providers process data in the United States or in other countries outside the United Kingdom. When your data is transferred to a country that is not recognised as giving it an adequate level of protection, we use the safeguards provided by law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, the EU standard contractual clauses, or the recipient’s participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension. You can ask us for more information.

8. How long we keep your data

  • Order and payment records: six years after the end of the financial year of your order, for our accounting and tax obligations and in case of a legal claim.
  • Customer service messages: three years after our last exchange.
  • Your account: until you close it; your order records are then kept as above.
  • Marketing emails: until you unsubscribe. We then keep your email address on a suppression list, so that we don’t email you again.
  • Reviews: as long as they are shown on our website, unless you ask us to remove them.
  • Cookies: for the duration shown in our cookie settings.

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
  • correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
  • erase your data, in some circumstances;
  • restrict how we use it, in some circumstances;
  • object to our use of your data based on our legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
  • data portability: receive the data you gave us in a commonly used format, or have it sent to another company;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it. This does not affect what we did before.

To use any of these rights, email contact@thesofacoverhouse.com. It is free. We may ask you to confirm your identity. We reply within one month; if your request is complex, we may extend this by up to two more months and will tell you why.

To stop our marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of them. We will still send you emails about your orders.

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we use your data, please tell us first at contact@thesofacoverhouse.com: we acknowledge every complaint within 30 days and deal with it without undue delay. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection authority (ico.org.uk). If you live in Ireland, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie); if you live in Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, to your local data protection authority.

11. Security

Our website runs on Shopify, and payments are processed by our payment providers over encrypted connections. Access to your data is limited to those who need it. No system is completely secure, so please never send us your card details by email.

12. Children

Our website and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

13. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice, for example if we change providers or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will let you know.
