What matters here is the stretch of the knit. Too much heat, fabric conditioner or the tumble dryer will loosen it, and the cover ends up baggy on your furniture.
Day to day
- Blot a fresh stain from the edge towards the centre with a damp cloth, without rubbing. There’s no need to take the cover off for a one-off spill.
Washing
- Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle, with no bleach or fabric conditioner.
- Wash it on its own if it’s a sofa cover: it needs room to rinse properly.
Drying
- Air dry on a clothes airer. Put it back on while it’s still slightly damp: it tightens up by itself as it finishes drying.
Avoid
- Tumble dryer, radiator, fabric conditioner, bleach.
These simple habits are what keep the knit stretchy.
