Size guide

What shape is your sofa?

A sofa throw is draped, not fitted. The recommended size lets it fall over the sides, front and back.

This sofa throw: will it fit your sofa?

Suitable for
Armchair, straight sofa, corner sofa and U-shaped sofa
Dimensions
eleven sizes from 180 × 90 to 180 × 420 cm

Fitting in 3 steps

As long as it takes to unfold it, no tools

The throw, on in a few seconds

  1. Unfold and centre

On a clean, dry sofa, lay the throw over the back and let it fall onto the seat, nicely centred.

  2. Tuck in a few centimetres

Tuck a few centimetres of fabric into the gap between the seat and the back. On a leather sofa, tuck in a little more.

  3. Let the sides fall

They drape over the arms and down the front; you can straighten the throw in one move, or fold it at the end of the sofa.

Step 1 of 3

Corner sofa: one throw per side, three for a U-shaped sofa; the size finder gives the length of each one.

Description

Change the colour of your sofa in a minute

Unfold the throw, lay it over the back, let it fall onto the seat and tuck in the sides. That's it. Nothing to pull on, nothing to stretch, nothing to fasten underneath.

A throw is not a cover: it doesn't take the shape of the sofa, it drapes over it. That's what makes it quick to put on, and it's what gives it its soft folds.

At the same time, it covers what you no longer want to see — a tired seat, a mark, fabric that has aged faster than the rest of the living room.

Which length to choose

All our throws are 180 cm wide. It's the length that changes: from 90 to 420 cm, in eleven sizes.

Measure the width of your sofa from one arm to the other, on the outside, and add about 50 cm: the throw then hangs down about 25 cm on each side. Each size states the width it covers from end to end, with no overhang: ‘up to 230 cm’ just covers a 230 cm sofa. The size finder does the maths for you, for a straight, corner or U-shaped sofa.

Widthways, its 180 cm goes over the back and the seat: give the size finder the depth of your sofa and it tells you how far the throw hangs down at the front and back.

Between two sizes, choose the larger. A throw that's too short shows what it was meant to cover; a slightly long one hangs down, which is exactly the look you want.

A corner sofa needs two

A corner sofa is two lengths that meet: you need two throws, one for each side, often in two different sizes. Measure each side from end to end, on the outside, corner included: the throws overlap in the corner. A U-shaped sofa needs three. The size finder gives you the size for each side and adds them to your basket together.

Beyond 420 cm in a straight line, use two throws side by side, overlapping in the middle. You can choose them in the same colour, or play with two different ones.

The price depends only on the size. No colour costs more than another, plain or patterned.

Free delivery on orders of £85 or more, plus two free cushion covers: you choose them in your basket.

Sizing and fitting

A throw isn’t slipped on: you drape it. There are no foam tuck-in sticks and no separate arm pieces.

Choosing the length

  • Measure the width of your sofa from one arm to the other, on the outside, and add about 50 cm: the throw hangs down about 25 cm on each side. Each size states the width it covers from end to end, without any overhang.
  • In the other direction, its 180 cm width goes over the back and the seat: measure the depth, from the top of the back to the floor at the front, to see how far it will hang down behind.
  • If you’re between two sizes, choose the larger one. The size finder does the maths for you.

How many throws

  • Straight sofa: one throw; over 420 cm, two side by side. Corner sofa: one per side, measuring each side including the corner. U-shaped sofa: three.

How to drape it

  • On a clean, dry sofa, unfold the throw, centre it on the seat and let the sides fall.
  • Tuck a few centimetres into the gap between the seat and the back, a little more on a leather sofa.
  • A throw isn’t fixed: if it moves, you put it back in a second. Take it off when you have guests, move it to the seat that gets the most use, or fold it over the end of the sofa.
Care

A woven throw isn’t a knit that springs back into shape: wash it like any other throw, without wringing it, and let it dry completely flat.

Day to day

  • Give it a shake or wipe it with a cloth. A fresh stain can be blotted without rubbing.

Washing

  • Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle, with no bleach or fabric conditioner.

Drying

  • Air dry, spread out flat. No tumble dryer, no radiator.

Avoid

  • Tumble dryer, bleach, a fast spin.

Care guide

Wash the throw on its own: it is bulky and needs room to rinse properly.

Your questions about this product

What length should I choose?

All our throws are 180 cm wide; lengths run from 90 to 420 cm, or 130 to 420 cm in faux leather. Measure the width of your sofa from one arm to the other, on the outside, and add about 50 cm so it falls about 25 cm over each side: the size finder does the maths for you. If you’re between two sizes, take the larger.

Does it cover the back?

Yes: lay it over the back and let it fall onto the seat — it covers both in one piece, and the sides hang down. It isn’t a cover: you don’t pull it over the arms.

Will it slip?

Yes, it can move: a throw is draped, not fixed. Tuck a few centimetres into the gap between the seat and the back; if it shifts, you can put it back in a second. Faux leather slips more, especially on a leather sofa: tuck a little more in.

What about a corner sofa?

Two throws, one per side, often in two different sizes; three for a U-shaped sofa. Measure each side from end to end, on the outside, corner included: the size finder gives you the size for each. Beyond 420 cm in a straight line, use two throws side by side, overlapping in the middle.

Will the colour match the photo?

Our photos are studio shots of our fabric, not computer-generated images. A screen can alter a shade slightly: if in doubt, email us at contact@thesofacoverhouse.com and ask for a daylight photo of the colour. And if the shade you receive isn’t right for you, you have 30 days from delivery to return it (return postage is at your cost).

Can I return it if I don’t like it?

Yes: you have a 30-day money-back guarantee from delivery, even if you simply change your mind. Email us at contact@thesofacoverhouse.com with your order number: we reply with the return address and instructions. Return postage is paid by you, and we refund you within 24 hours of receiving the return, to your original payment method.
