Fitting in 5 steps
2 minutes at most, no tools
Find the BACK label
A label sewn into the cover shows which way it goes on: find it before you start. The cover looks small when you unpack it: that's normal, it stretches.
Start at the top of the back
Centre the cover on the back, then pull the fabric over the seat and the arms, evenly on both sides. Wingback chair: fit it over the wings first. No need to remove the seat cushion.
Tie the cords
Once the armchair is covered, tie the cords together underneath it.
Insert the foam tuck-in sticks
Push the foam tuck-in sticks provided into the gaps between the seat, the back and the arms: they wedge in the excess fabric.
Adjust
Smooth the fabric by hand, from the centre to the edges, then tuck the excess into the gaps. Do this again whenever the fabric has moved.
Step 1 of 5
Cover a little tight when you unpack it? The fabric relaxes once it's on.

Description
The wingback chair, the one you never replace
A wingback chair is the reading chair, often the oldest one in the house and the one you keep. Its high back and side wings defeat any ordinary cover, which leaves them bare or pulls them askew. This one is cut for them: the wings, high back, arms and seat are covered in one piece.
The jacquard has a water-repellent finish: tea spilt while reading beads on the surface, so you have time to wipe it with a cloth. Its textured knit is thicker and firmer than a jersey, and stretches both ways to follow the shape.
It goes on without tools and without removing the seat cushion: slip it over the back, adjust the wings, and tuck the edge between the seat and the back. In 2 minutes at most.
Check before you order
One size, for standard wingback chairs. Measure three things: the width at the top, wings included, from 69 to 80 cm; the overall height, from 95 to 110 cm; the depth, front to back, from 80 to 92 cm. The fabric stretches within these ranges. A chair with a low back and rounded arms, or a club chair, needs the tub chair cover; a classic armchair with a straight back needs one of our classic armchair covers.
How many you need
One cover fits one chair: back, arms and seat in one piece. Just one per chair.
Free delivery on orders of £85 or more, plus two free cushion covers: you choose them in your basket.
Care
Machine washable at 30°C. Air dry, no ironing. Take the cover off, wash it, put it back on.
The six colours
Grey, Black, Ecru, Navy blue, Deep burgundy and Turquoise.
Sizing and fitting
Each armchair shape has its own cover, in a single size: first identify the shape of yours, then check its measurements.
How to measure
- Classic armchair, with a straight back and arms: measure from one arm to the other, following the shape of the chair, arms included, with the tape measure flat against the fabric. The cover fits 90 to 140 cm. Beyond that, choose the sofa cover in the 2-seater size (from 145 cm), in stretch, water-repellent jacquard or velvet. Check the depth too: from the top of the back to the front edge of the seat, following the fabric, 140 cm at most.
- Tub chair, club chair or Scandinavian-style armchair, with a low back and solid arms: it has its own cover, in one size, cut for this shape: 70 to 90 cm high, 65 to 95 cm wide, top of the back 55 to 75 cm, seat 35 to 55 cm wide.
- Wingback chair: 69 to 80 cm wide at the top, wings included, 95 to 110 cm high, 80 to 92 cm deep from front to back.
Fitting
- Centre the cover on the back, slip it on from the top, pull it down with both hands, tie the cords under the chair, then tuck the foam tuck-in sticks into the gaps. Two minutes at most, no tools, no need to remove the cushion.
- Wingback chair: fit the cover over the wings first, then pull it down.
Care
The water-repellent finish gives you time, it doesn’t seal the fabric: liquids bead on the surface, you blot them up, and nothing sets in. Fabric conditioner clogs the finish and cancels it out, and so does the heat of a tumble dryer.
Day to day
- Blot while the liquid is still on the surface. Dab, never rub: rubbing pushes the liquid between the threads.
- Vacuum now and then in the direction of the weave; a soft brush cleans the texture.
- If a spill has been left to sit, a full wash will freshen the fabric — the water-repellent finish can’t prevent a stain that’s left too long.
Washing
- Turn the cover inside out to protect the texture.
- Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle with a gentle liquid detergent, with no fabric conditioner or bleach.
- Gentle spin, 800 rpm maximum.
Drying
- Dry flat or on a clothes airer, in the open air. Put the cover back on while it’s still slightly damp so it tightens back up; the water-repellent finish reactivates as it dries.
Avoid
- Fabric conditioner, tumble dryer, bleach, rubbing, a hot iron on the right side.
