Size guide

What shape is your sofa?

Corner sofa, with or without a chaise end: choose ‘L-shaped’. Three parts: ‘U-shaped’. You tell us about the chaise end in the next step.

1-seater90 to 140 cm
2-seater145 to 185 cm
3-seater190 to 230 cm
4-seater235 to 300 cm

The same chart applies to a straight sofa, to each part of an L-shaped or U-shaped sofa, and to a chaise end. Between two sizes, choose the larger one: the fabric stretches, and you tuck the excess between the cushions with the foam sticks provided.

This cover: will it fit your sofa?

Suitable for
Armchair, straight sofa, corner sofa, U-shaped sofa
Dimensions
90 to 300 cm from arm to arm, arms included; on a corner or U-shaped sofa, there must be a gap between the sections, even a small one.

Fitting in 5 steps

About 2 minutes, no tools — quicker with two people

  1. Find the BACK label

A label sewn into the cover shows which way it goes on: find it before you start, so you don't have to turn the cover round halfway. The cover looks small when you unpack it: that's normal, it stretches.

  2. Pull the cover over the sofa

Place it over the back, then pull the fabric over the seat and the arms, on each side, until the sofa is fully covered.

  3. Tie the cords

Once the sofa is covered, tie the cords together underneath it.

  4. Insert the foam tuck-in sticks

Push the foam tuck-in sticks provided into the gaps between the seat and the back: they wedge in the excess fabric.

  5. Adjust

Smooth the fabric by hand, from the centre to the edges, then tuck the excess into the gaps. Do this again whenever the fabric has moved.

Description

A knocked-over glass, a child having a snack on the sofa, a dog that jumps up the moment your back is turned. You spend your time keeping watch.

This cover takes the splashes instead of your sofa. Liquids bead on the surface: you have time to wipe them away with a cloth.

What it changes at home

  • Liquids bead on the surface. The jacquard fabric has a water-repellent treatment: a drop of water or a spilt coffee sits on top long enough for you to wipe it away.
  • A jacquard knit that stretches. Both ways: a single piece covers the seat, the back and the arms, whether straight or rounded.
  • No tools, no cutting. About 2 minutes, quicker with two people: pull it on, then tuck the edges between the seat and the back.
  • A quick tweak now and then. Like a fitted sheet: when the fabric has moved, smooth it out and tuck the excess back into the gaps.

Day to day

  • Machine washable at 30°C. Take it off, wash it, put it back on.
  • Free delivery on orders of £85 or more, with 2 free cushion covers: your basket lets you choose them.

Choosing your size

One cover fits one straight section of seating. A straight sofa needs 1 cover, an L-shaped corner sofa 2 covers, a U-shaped sofa 3 covers. The 1-seater size also fits an armchair.

Four sizes cover sofas from 90 to 300 cm wide: 1-seater (90-140 cm / 36-55 in), 2-seater (145-185 cm / 58-72 in), 3-seater (190-230 cm / 75-90 in), 4-seater (235-300 cm / 93-118 in). Measure from arm to arm following the shape of the sofa, arms included (from the outer edge of one arm, over the top, to the outer edge of the other, with the tape measure flat against the fabric), and choose the matching size. If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Available in 18 colours

Plain: Grey · Black · Beige · Off-white · Chocolate · Coffee · Dark burgundy · Navy blue · Sage green · Pink.

Patterns: Grey with pink pom-poms · Slate blue with white leaves · Ecru with white flowers · Brown and beige geometric · Black graphic facets · Midnight blue with gold flower · Mauve and gold triangles · Black with white palm leaves.

Sizing and fitting

Measure from one arm to the other, following the shape of the sofa, arms included, with the tape measure flat against the fabric — not by the number of cushions or the make of the sofa. If you’re between two sizes, choose the larger one: the fabric stretches, and you tuck the excess between the cushions with the foam tuck-in sticks supplied.

Sizes

  • 1-seater: 90-140 cm / 36-55 in
  • 2-seater: 145-185 cm / 58-72 in
  • 3-seater: 190-230 cm / 75-90 in
  • 4-seater: 235-300 cm / 93-118 in

Check the depth too: from the top of the back to the front edge of the seat, following the fabric, 140 cm at most.

Fitting

  • No tools needed. Slip the cover on (back label against the backrest), stretch it over the arms, tie the cords under the sofa and tuck in the excess with the foam tuck-in sticks supplied. About 2 minutes, quicker with two people.

Corner or U-shaped sofa

  • 2 covers for a corner sofa (one per section), 3 for a U-shaped sofa. Measure each part on its own, following its shape, with the tape measure flat against the fabric: start at the outer edge of the arm, go over the top and stop at the gap between sections; a middle part runs from one gap to the next. Measure a chaise end from the top of the back to the end of the seat, following the fabric. Fit the corner section first. The sections must be separate, even slightly: without a gap between them, the covers can’t be fitted.

Care

The water-repellent finish gives you time, it doesn’t seal the fabric: liquids bead on the surface, you blot them up, and nothing sets in. Fabric conditioner clogs the finish and cancels it out, and so does the heat of a tumble dryer.

Day to day

  • Blot while the liquid is still on the surface. Dab, never rub: rubbing pushes the liquid between the threads.
  • Vacuum now and then in the direction of the weave; a soft brush cleans the texture.
  • If a spill has been left to sit, a full wash will freshen the fabric — the water-repellent finish can’t prevent a stain that’s left too long.

Washing

  • Turn the cover inside out to protect the texture.
  • Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle with a gentle liquid detergent, with no fabric conditioner or bleach.
  • Gentle spin, 800 rpm maximum.

Drying

  • Dry flat or on a clothes airer, in the open air. Put the cover back on while it’s still slightly damp so it tightens back up; the water-repellent finish reactivates as it dries.

Avoid

  • Fabric conditioner, tumble dryer, bleach, rubbing, a hot iron on the right side.

Your questions about this product

Water-repellent or waterproof: what’s the difference?

Water-repellent: liquid beads on the surface and you have time to mop it up; a puddle left for a long time will eventually soak through. Waterproof (the EasyCover™ Waterproof Sofa Cover, faux leather): nothing gets through. For meals and drinks, water-repellent is enough; for a pet or young children, take a look at the EasyCover™ Waterproof Sofa Cover.

What if I get the size wrong?

Measure your sofa from one arm to the other following its shape, arms included; if you’re between two sizes, take the larger. If the size you receive doesn’t fit, you can exchange it for the right size within 30 days of delivery, subject to availability: email us at contact@thesofacoverhouse.com with your order number, send the cover back (return postage is at your cost) and we’ll send you the size you need.

Will it move about?

It can move a little with use, like a fitted sheet. The fabric stretches over the sofa, the cords tie underneath it, and the foam tuck-in sticks supplied slide in with the extra fabric between the seat and the back. When it has moved, it takes a second to put it back: smooth the fabric and tuck the excess back in.

What about children or a cat?

The cover takes the hair, marks and small stains instead of your sofa, and goes in the machine at 30°C. The water-repellent jacquard makes liquids bead on the surface: you have time to wipe them up. If your cat uses the sofa as a scratching post, our guide ‘Which sofa cover fabric for a home with pets?’ compares the fabrics.

Can I use it on leather or faux leather furniture?

Yes. On a smooth surface it can slip a little more than on fabric: tuck the extra fabric firmly between the seat and the back with the foam tuck-in sticks, and adjust it from time to time. For a sofa that gets heavy use, the EasyCover™ range has a non-slip underside.

Does the jacquard stretch like the plain knit?

Yes: it stretches both ways and fits in the same way. Its textured surface is thicker and firmer than jersey.

My seat cushions are removable — is that a problem?

No: the cover wraps the sofa in one piece, with the cushions in place, and you tuck the extra fabric between the seat and the back. If you’d rather cover each cushion separately, that’s what the EasyDrap™ range is for.

Does the water-repellent finish last through washing?

It fades gradually with washing. To make it last, machine wash at 30°C without fabric softener, which clogs the finish. Air dry.

What if my sofa has a corner or a chaise end?

One cover per section: two for a corner sofa, three for a U-shaped sofa. Your sofa needs a separation between its sections, even a slight one: without it, the covers can’t be fitted. Measure each section on its own, from the outer edge of the arm, over the top, to the separation.

Can I return it if I don’t like it?

Yes: you have a 30-day money-back guarantee from delivery, even if you simply change your mind. Email us at contact@thesofacoverhouse.com with your order number: we reply with the return address and instructions. Return postage is paid by you, and we refund you within 24 hours of receiving the return, to your original payment method.
